Cygnet Ealing is a specialist Tier 4 inpatient service comprised of two wards: New Dawn ward is a nine bed ward for women with personality disorder and Sunrise ward is a fourteen bed ward for women with eating disorder.  The psychology team provide psychological assessments and interventions for service users, whilst also supporting their families and carers.

We wish to appoint a psychologist who will work across both wards under the supervision of senior psychologists.  You should be able to demonstrate your use of evidence-based practice in specialist adult mental health settings, including competence in working with adults suffering with complex mental health needs.  In your position, you will work as part of an established multi-disciplinary team and will offer psychological insight and knowledge through in depth psychological assessments and provide consultation about appropriate therapeutic interventions for staff, families and other agencies.  You will work closely with other members of the psychological therapies team to achieve its key objectives of delivering excellent integrated, safe, accessible, responsive, effective and caring services to service users.  You will ensure the service you provide is of a high quality and meets national guidance as well as meeting local and nationally agreed targets.

New Dawn ward is commissioned to offer two cycles of DBT to our services users, so you will support the DBT group programme and attend consult, you will support additional therapy groups offered by the service, guided by NICE guidelines for this patient group. The eating disorder service offers evidence based group and individual therapies and you will be offered training in these interventions as part of your role. 

You will offer supervision to junior colleagues and you will offer training/teaching to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.  You will receive expert clinical supervision, there are excellent opportunities for service development, and service evaluation/research. There will be scope for many and varied opportunities within the organisation, and as part of the package you will also receive formal DBT training.

You will have:

  • A doctorate level qualification (BPS route or equivalent), registered as a practitioner psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
  • Preferably have inpatient experience within adult mental health
  • Knowledge and experience of various psychological assessments, treatment and therapies
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
